A question of balance

A question of balance

August sees the release of our latest policy research publication, A question of balance: principles, contracts and the government not-for-profit relationship, a collaborative project between the UWS Research Centre for Social Justice and Social Change, the Public Interest Advocacy Centre, and the Whitlam Institute. The project has been generously supported by Jobs Australia.

For over a year our organisations have been examining the contractual relationship between Governments and not-for-profit organisations for the provision of services, particularly employment services. In doing so, we have supplemented the primary and secondary research with detailed legal analysis of a number of key federal government contracts.

The Question of Balance report not only presents the research findings but proposes a series of recommendations including a proposed set of common principles that could govern future contracts.

Our sole interest since embarking on this project has been twofold: firstly, to determine what the impact is of these contracts – including on the relationship between the Government and non-government parties; and secondly to offer concrete, constructive ideas for nurturing stronger relationships to deliver better services.

The report will be soon be available to download free from our website.
