The Whitlam Prime Ministerial Collection's Still Growing
The Whitlam Prime Ministerial Collection is growing in size and significance. It can rightly be regarded as a collection of genuine national significance. This is due primarily to Gough and Margaret Whitlam's personal generosity and that of the Whitlam family.
In January this year Mr Whitlam donated another 290 books to the Collection which included material from Mr Whitlam’s high school and university days - all signed by 'EGW' at the time - and which clearly saw much usage.
Liz Curach, the UWS University Librarian, notes that, 'It's interesting to observe the growth in stature of Mr Whitlam’s signature over the years.'
Many of the volumes were school/university prizes and complement the documents which also formed a major component of this donation. These documents and magazines highlight several aspects of Mr Whitlam's education (high school and university) and his parliamentary career (1952-1978) and complement material already donated to the Institute.
The Institute arguably now holds an unrivalled collection of materials relating to Mr Whitlam's education and parliamentary career.
