Latest update from the Institute Board and staff changes

The Board of the Whitlam Institute met in Sydney on Friday 21 November. It was an important meeting confirming our 2009 Strategic Plan and 2009 Budgets amongst a number of important decisions.

It was also the last meeting for long-standing Board member, Alex Sanchez. Feeling it might be time to pass the baton, Alex decided not to re-nominate at the conclusion of his current three-year term. Several fellow Board members, Professor Janice Reid, Geoffrey Roberson and John Wells, were also eligible for re-election and will be continuing on the Board. We also welcomed a new Board Member, Talal Yassine, who attended his first meeting as a Board member and Trustee following his appointment in October.

We are very grateful to Alex for his enduring commitment to the Whitlam Institute.

You will also have noticed that we are recruiting a Communications Officer at the Institute. This follows the resignation of Eleanor Gibbs who has pioneered this role within our small secretariat. Eleanor was recently elected to the Blue Mountains City Council and has decided to devote more time to her new representative duties and her Party. All here at the Whitlam Institute wish her the very best.
