Dear Mr. & Mrs. Whitlam,
Blackburn Lake SanctuaryWe are enclosing a photo of our daughters, Tara and Bridie, sitting by Blackburn Lake with a thank you banner that they especially made for you.
With the many outstanding things that you have achieved you may not recall the important role that you played, in the early 70's, when you visited Blackburn Lake and agreed to provide Federal funding assistance to save its bushland from the developer’s bulldozer. Please be happy to know that the community has honoured your pledge and worked enthusiastically over the last 40 years to protect this bushland, it now thrives as a source of relaxation, inspiration and environmental education for Melbournians of all ages.
Today, it is regarded as one of Melbourne's most significant natural bushland reserves and we also consider it a magnificent testimony to your vision and something for you to be very, very proud of.
Now, as the generations have rolled on, we sincerely hope that the smiles and gratitude of this new generation, our Tara and Bridie, bring to you a profound peace. With Heartfelt Thanks……………..
John, Jenny, Tara & Bridie
