More opportunities for What Matters? winners
Hugh Mackay, Prof Janice Reid, Eric Sidoti with What Matters winner Amelia Adam and Mr Whitlam.
Winners from this year's What Matters essay competition will be attending the 'Young Writers Workshop' on Monday 4 August at the Female Orphan School.
The workshops are being facilitated by Bernard Cohen, an award winning author, who has judged the NSW Premier's New Writer's Fellowship and the Sydney Morning Herald Best Young Writer award. Young people from Bernard's workshops have had their writing published on websites in Australia and the UK, written books, stories and poems, and exhibited written work at the Australian Museum. Students are sure to benefit from Bernard's expertise and guidance and we look forward to publishing the best works from the workshop on our web site.
A publication of the 2008 What Matters winning entries will be released during workshop proceedings. The publication includes the What Matters lecture by competition patron Hugh Mackay, a message from the UWS Vice-Chancellor Professor Janice Reid, foreword by Whitlam Institute Director Eric Sidoti and this year's winning entries.
The workshop completes a very successful 2008 What Matters writing competition which received a record number of entries. Plans are underway for the launch of the 2009 competition in term one. Stay tuned.
