Prime Minister of Australia Hon Gough Whitlam, QC farewells Governor General Sir John Kerr on his first overseas tour. Kerr visits Nepal for the coronation of King Birendra, India, Pakistan, Afganistan and Iran before returning home on 15 March.

New South Wales Parliament appoints independent Mayor of Albury Cleaver Bunton to replace Senator Lionel Murphy who resigned on 10 February 1975 following his appointment to the High Court of Australia. Glossary
Senate - the Senate operates as a house of review. Its role is to check on government by scrutinising bills, delegated legislation, government administration, and government policy in general. The effectiveness of these processes in holding the government accountable to the Parliament is usually increased because the Government rarely possesses a Senate majority.
