ADVANCE NOTICE - Symposium on Labour
Market Evolution 29 November 2011
|
|
|
|

|
|
We're
pleased to be able to give you advance notice of our upcoming
symposium on Labour
Market Evolution, The Challenges and Options for a 21st Century
Economy. While we are close to finalising the
program, we can't give away all of the details quite yet. It's
looking set to be a top line-up of speakers and is sure to
be a valuable event which builds on the success of our 2009 and
2010 symposia.
The symposium will explore how the Australian labour market
might evolve to deliver a society that is both prosperous and
equitable. It is an opportunity to consider ideas and options
for:
- Maintaining a strong labour market within a sustained
commitment to full employment
- Expanding the labour market to better utilize those who find
it difficult to compete or to secure a place
- Better balancing the imperatives for economic growth and
equity

Papers
are now available on our website from the sixth seminar in
the series for the Federalism
in Australian Schooling: It's impact
upon quality and equity research
project.
On 23 September The Hon. Nathan Rees MP, Mary Ann O'Loughlin and Professor Jack Keating
shared with the Sydney audience their experiences and
understanding of federalism across a range of policy
areas. A lively discussion followed as the implications
for the education area were explored.
Please visit our website to access papers and
audio/video files from the entire seminar series.

Diverse views make forum on same-sex marriage
a great success
|
|
|
|

|
|
Last
week we were thrilled to have a full house at Riverside
Theatres, Parramatta for a forum on same-sex marriage which
we co-presented with the University of Western
Sydney Office of Equity and Diversity. The
presentations and discussion on this important contemporary
issue was filmed for broadcast by TVS, and it will be
available to watch online in coming weeks.
We were grateful to be joined by esteemed former High
Court Judge The Honourable Michael Kirby AC CMG and
well-regarded former Tasmanian Senator Guy Barnett.
